How to Gracefully Transition to Grey Hair

Are you ready to go grey? Are you tired of coloring your hair every 4-8 weeks with permanent

color? Are you not sure if grey would look good on you? Here are 5 ideas for going grey gracefully:

1.Try a wig! If you are not sure grey will look good on you, you can try on grey wigs to see how the tone looks with your skin and how you feel with the color

2.Ask for a "face frame of grey" or a small grey highlight: If you don't want to do an all over transformation of grey, you can just have the hair around your face highlighted and toned grey to see how you feel about the color. If you love it, you can have more added later.

3.Grow out your grey with an ashy toner on brassy ends. Growing out your grey is the most budget friendly and least damaging option for your hair, since a "grey transformation" would involve heavily highlighting your hair. If the ends are brassy it can make the grow out even worse, so some people choose to tone the ends a darker ashier color to make the grow out more bearable

4. Wear your hair back while growing out your grey to make the color transition

less obvious. If you don't like the color difference in your natural color and growing out the permanent, but don't want to spend the money on a grey transformation service, some people will wear a hat or clip their hair up to hide the transition until it fully grows out. It takes 1-4 years typically to grow out chin length to long hair.

5. Get a full grey transformation! Are you ready to fully accept your grey hair? you will need to grow your natural color out 4-6months to have enough of your natural color showing for a stylist to match your natural color and work efficiently enough to heavily highlight your hair. Your stylist may recommend several sessions of color remover to break down the artificial color pigment in your hair before highlighting your hair to make the highlighting process less damaging. They will likely use bond protectors and other chemicals to protect your hair in the process which are very expensive. Read the next blog about "What to Expect with a Grey Transformation Color Appointment" to get an idea of how much time you will be spending in a salon chair to go grey, how much it will cost, and the maintenance at home it will require.

6. You cannot get grey hair from box color! Do not attempt a grey transformation at home as this could be extremely damaging and color, especially bleaching your own hair is not as easy as it looks.
